Meet the Artists…..
Rachel Hannan is a Capertee Valley, New South Wales artist whose practice spans expressive abstraction and energetic alla prima landscapes and still lifes. Inspired by the Australian landscape, she explores light, atmosphere and a sense of place, often combining representational and abstract elements to create emotionally resonant works.
Anita White has worked as a high school English & Art teacher & interior design consultant before embarking on painting in a full time capacity a few years ago. She did part time study with Celia Gullett in Annandale & has undertaken workshops at the National Art School in oil painting & attained an Advanced Diploma in Visual Arts at Nepean TAFE. Usually Anita’s work is largely figurative as she likes to paint people in their own homes/contexts. Since her first solo exhibition at Braemar house in 2019 she has exhibited bi annually in local Art spaces including Glen Davis. This time she has focused her gaze on pattern, in natural environments & in design elements & flora.
Janice Hughes completed the Society Botanical Artists (SBA) Distance Education Course in Botanical Art 2021. Native plants are her main focus, and living in the Blue Mountains provides much inspiration. The Capertee Valley and in particular the Glen Davis Reserve and it's revegetation have also been a source for interesting and important specimens to draw.
Annie Smith has spent 11 years observing, painting, photographing the beautiful Capertee Valley. Her property is off grid so up until recently has fired her kiln using a petrol generator. A friend’s family gifted her a gas kiln which has enabled the expansion of many beautiful works. Annie loves painting in oils, especially the magnificent escarpments in the Capertee Valley. Birdlife Australia have planted over 8,000 trees and shrubs to provide sanctuaries for the Regent Honeyeater and many Roos, marsupials, birds, reptiles in my neighbourhood.
Celia Morgan has been exhibiting for over 30 years in Australia and internationally. She is represented in private collections around the world. The pursuit of education (?) resulted in a BFA 1996, MFA 2006, and PhD 2014. She is a multi time finalist in various prizes. With a studio and home based in Glen Davis, the magnitude of the surrounding landscape is ever present in her work, in whatever iteration it may express itself. Be it painting, drawing or the occasional performative skirmish.
Vicki Powys studied at the Julian Ashton Art School in the 1960s and is a landscape artist and botanical illustrator.
Sophie Sheppard is a multidisciplinary maker with an interest in materials, matterlings and multi-species relationships.
The Glen Davis Community Hall will exhibit works from these multi-talented artists during the Lithgow Arts Trail 2026. The hall is located off Crown Crescent in the Glen Davis Village camping ground.
