Jane can be seen hurtling along in Dot, her red Kombi van, with her little dogs – visiting out west or up and down the coast, working from life wherever possible.
"I grew up surrounded by art with my Dad and two uncles as artists. My family went camping nearly every weekend and Dad always had his sketchbook and camera handy. No doubt, this is why I too prefer working in the landscape. In the last 12 months or so I have seen my way of working change. Right now, I prefer to work on quick gouache or watercolour sketches en plein air and then work off these in the studio. My work is becoming more abstracted. Always working in blocks of colour. I am constantly inspired by many artists... Franz Kline, Clarice Beckett, Wolf Khan, Ann Thomson, Pierre Bonnard and English artists Colin Orchard (my mentor and friend) and Ivon Hitchens to name a few. Influences are strange. I think as Artists we 'cherry pick' and it all comes out in our own style. Who knows where we are going."
